A large number of APS customers were without power for varying times in the Casa Grande/Eloy/Arizona City area Thursday afternoon, according to Thomas Yost, Pinal energy delivery manager.

A malfunction in a high voltage power line going into the APS substation in Casa Grande caused power to go off for 6,640 customers in Casa Grande at 12:59 p.m. Thursday.

Customers in Eloy and Arizona City lost power later due to the same malfunction, Yost said.

Yost said Casa Grande power was restored about 11 minutes later at 1:10 p.m. The power went out at 1:22 p.m. in the Eloy/Arizona City area and was restored at 2 p.m., Yost said, an outage of about 38 minutes for 8,188 customers.

A second outage caused by the same power line at the same station occurred at 1:22 p.m. and lasted until 1:54, an outage of about 30 minutes in Casa Grande.

Although this isn’t really “tech” related, I just wanted to take a minute to prove to everyone that it wasn’t my fault that the power went out. ;)
